About Me
Leena Teckchandani
BEng, MEng Electronics

I am a full-time private tutor, with over 15 years of teaching experience, specialising in A-level and GCSE Maths. This includes short term teaching roles at independent sixth-form colleges and one-to-one tutoring.

I mainly tutor A-level, GCSE and younger students couple of years prior to their GCSE exams. I help them prepare for their public examinations.

I have an in-depth knowledge of the specification for all the main exam boards: Edexcel, OCR, OCR MEI, AQA, and CIE, and have an excellent understanding of the subtle changes made to GCSEs and A-level specification recently.

I have been teaching students from schools including NLCS, HABS, Henrietta Barnett, QE Boys’, Mill Hill, Merchant Taylors’, Highgate, Channing, South Hampstead High School and Dames Alice Owens.

I successfully completed my post-graduation from one of the top universities in India - BITS, Pilani. After spending the initial few years working as an R&D Engineer in American and Japanese firms, I decided to quit my job to follow my passion for teaching, and Maths was my natural choice due to my Engineering background.

15+

Years of Teaching Experience

500+

Students Taught

GCSE and A-level Maths and Further Maths

GCSE and IGCSE

The main focus for students taking GCSE examinations is to bridge all the knowledge gaps, teach all the topics from 9-1 GCSE specification in-depth, followed by teaching teachniques to answer exam questions in order to secure highest possible marks.

A-level

The main focus for A-level students is to thoroughly teach the AS and A-level topics from both Pure and Applied Maths. This is followed by teaching techniques to answer exam style questions.

Home Schooling and Gap Years

For home-schooled students and students taking a gap year to retake the public exams, sessions are customized to take a different approach in order to receive grades needed for the university offers.

Year 7 - Year 9

I work with a wide spectrum of younger students from those who find Maths challenging when they start secondary school, to the high achievers from very academic schools who come to me to be challenged.

Revision and Crash courses in Summer break

During the school break, I work with students starting Year 11 and Year 13 who either need to do catch up work to fill in the knowledge gaps from the previous academic year, or those who would like to continue working in the summer break to stay on top on their academic work.

11+ Mathematics

I work with students from Year 3 onwards to help them prepare for the Maths part of SATS taken at the end of Year 6 or 11+ exams for entry to Grammar and Independent Schools. I start by identifying the gaps in the KS1 Maths topics, and then teach the KS2 topics thoroughly by using various resources – CGP, S&S books and sample papers.

Each student is unique, and so are my sessions. I have a variety of teaching styles that I adapt for different students so that they can achieve their potential.

I teach a new topic in-depth and this helps my students to think independently and also enables them to make links between different Mathematical concepts.

As we progress, students are expected to do regular work at home based on the topics covered together. This not only gives them an opportunity to revisit the topic covered in our lesson but also helps me identify any gaps in their knowledge.

Once the entire syllabus is covered in my sessions, I like to revise the complex topics by using a wide range of resources. As we approach the exams, more emphasis is given to doing past paper questions or even doing practice papers under timed conditions. This is where we focus on exam techniques to secure the highest possible marks.

My students describe me as patient, friendly and approachable and are never hesitant to ask me questions or repetitions if they haven’t fully grasped. All the progress made in lessons is documented and constant feedback is given to parents. While working with me, my students feel more confident about their abilities and set themselves a very high standard. With all my students, we have achieved some excellent results with GCSE students scoring 8 and 9 grades, and A-level students receiving the high grades they require in order to be accepted at a university of their choice.

Most of my students have received offers from a range of impressive institutions including – Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, LSE and other Russell Group universities.

Testimonials

Parent of Year 13 and Year 12 student
Top Independent School - London

She guided my daughter to achieving the top grade in her GCSE maths exam a few months ago. Leena is very good at explaining the concepts in an organized and efficient way, showing a lot of patience and raising the overall level of confidence of my daughter in readiness for the exam. Highly recommended.

Parent of Year 11 student, NLCS

I cannot praise Leena enough for the help she gave my son for his GCSE maths. After lockdown his grades and confidence had suffered, Leena got him back up to where he had been and much further. Most importantly he enjoyed the lessons and never ever grumbled about having to go. He secured a grade 9 and we are all thrilled. Thank you so much Leena.

Parent of Year 11 student, Habs Boys' School

Leena is an extremely dedicated Maths tutor. Our son excelled in Maths and became very confident in the subject with Leena's help and as a consequence, he has decided to do "A" level Maths. Further, Leena is very friendly and easy to get on with, therefore she is able to put students at ease, raise their confidence and most of all, get the best out of a student.

Parent of Year 11 student, Habs Boys' School

Leena is an excellent tutor who helps me fully grasp new topics quickly due to her clear and concise steps and advice. She is conscious of what exam boards pick on with her examples covering a wide scope of what the topics entail. Leena is very efficient and works at a fast pace, however if you do need clarification or a moment to ponder, she is very patient and is able to explain in further detail. Additionally, by covering exam questions in her lessons, this has given me further confidence in actually understanding key topics and concepts. Her dedication and systematic approach is truly admirable and I am lucky to have found such a great maths tutor.

A-level student, Henreitta Barnett School

Leena was a phenomenal tutor who was able to help me raise my grade C in my Maths AS-level to a grade A in my Maths A2-Level. Her teaching style and ability helped me to understand the maths being taught, something which I was not able to do in a classroom environment. Her examples and tips were invaluable in my exams as I was able to identify appropriate methods to answer questions with, while understanding the methods and working as well. She was able to teach me the whole of C3 and C4 in the space of just over a term whilst also helping me in my preparation for C1 and C2 resits.

A-level student, Habs Boys’ School

Leena has been tutoring my 14 year old daughter now, who is at a high achieving school and needs additional support in Maths to reinforce understanding and explain concepts in a clear and logical manner, She has benefitted from the time she has spent with Leena, who is calm, logical and explains difficult concepts in a way that she understands. My daughter's confidence in the subject is growing and she is making significant progress which is wonderful to see..

Leena is an amazing tutor! She found and addressed my weaker areas helpfully, and gave me many resources to consolidate my knowledge. I feel more prepared to take the GCSEs now and would recommend her to everyone.

Year 11 student, NLCS

Leena is a wonderful tutor, who enabled me to understand difficult concepts, and helped improve my confidence in the new A level maths specification. Lessons were engaging and tailored to my learning pace. She gave me a deep understanding of the course and exam question structure, as well as inspiring enthusiasm for the subject itself.

A-level student, Henreitta Barnett School

Leena has been pivotal not only in furthering my son’s understanding of the subject taught at school, but also the in the challenges placed on his upcoming GCSE’s exams. Her knowledge and delivery of the lessons have rekindled his passion for maths, thus placing him on the top sets at his year.

Parent of Year 9 student, Finchley Catholic School

Leena helped me in FP1, FP2 and FP3 which I scored 94, 84 and 86 in and helped me achieve my grades to get into Imperial. Leena was always very prepared for each lesson picking out key examples and working through them very thoroughly with me meaning I was able to attempt similar questions by myself. She aided me and made Further Mathematics simpler to grasp so I was well prepared for exams.

A-level student, QE Boys’ School

I had asked my mother to find me a maths tutor several months before sitting my maths A level. I was a bit apprehensive as she had found her on the internet and not via a personal recommendation. I needn’t have worried Leena was incredibly patient, thorough and precise. She explained the concepts particularly well and then continued to go over them to ensure I mastered them correctly. She is caring, helpful and I cannot recommend her highly enough. My only regret is that I did not know of Leena earlier.

A-level student, UCS Boys' School

Leena taught my daughter A Level maths; all three modules including pure, statistics and mechanics. My daughter was struggling closer to her exams as she was under a lot of pressure due to the grades she had to achieve for her university offers. Leena helped her clearly understand concepts and went through every exam/textbook question that she was having difficulty with. If there was anything that my daughter was unsure about she knew she could rely on Leena to support her even at the last moment. She adapts her teaching techniques for different students so that they can achieve their potential.

Parent of A-level student, Tiffin Girls’ School

Having studied at Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School one would expect my Maths to be exceptional. This was not the case. Leena was able to identify my weaknesses and provide questions to underlay these problems. My predicted grade in C3 was a B but thanks to Leena's support I ended up with 90 UMS an A* in this module. Maths is all about practice and Leena can pin point the best questions possible to prepare best for the exam. Leena is patient and I would normally pick up harder mathematical concepts with her support. I'm sure you won't find a better tutor in North London.

A-level student, Habs Boys' School

Leena has been a brilliant tutor in helping me for my A-Level Maths exams: her work rate is truly remarkable: we were able to cover lots of material during lessons, and she taught me in a very effective and comprehensible way. From past papers to textbooks to general queries, Leena could help me with everything, and she was very patient when I didn't understand something, and I would thoroughly recommend her to anyone wishing to get help from a Maths tutor.

A-level student, Westminster School

Not only did I receive sufficient knowledge of the course material and methods required to receive an A grade through Leena's tuition, but she also provided me with the depth of understanding which is necessary to take the subject further than A level. Leena was a fantastic help throughout my A level year and I shall forever be grateful for that. Outcome: A* with an average score of 94 in my A2 core modules

A-level student, GAP Year for Retakes

Parent of A-level student, Benenden Girls' Kent

Leena taught my year 13 son A level maths for a crash course before his exams due to the amount of school he had missed. Leena took the time to research a syllabus she was unfamiliar with .She was a great communicator and restored my son's confidence in his own abilities.

Parent of A-level student

Mrs Teckchandani has been tutoring my daughter who was in year 10 going to year 11 for nearly a year. We find her very supportive, she follows the new curriculum with excellent subject knowledge. She delivers her lessons effectively and very efficient with resources and relevant texts. She always gives feedback, sends me questions and resources for revision. My daughter describes her as caring and helpful in her lessons and understands the topics swiftly.

Parent of Year 11 student, Westminster Academy

I had 7 lessons with Leena to assist me in preparing for the Maths element of the Cambridge Economics course entrance exam. There are only a few past papers available, so Leena was invaluable in helping me prepare. She identified the topics covered in the exam specification and the level of difficulty of questions asked (harder than A level but slightly easier than BMAT), directed me to practice questions which were at the right level and then helped me with techniques to solve those questions quickly and efficiently. I sat the exam yesterday and felt confident both going into and coming out of the exam. Leena really knew her stuff, put in a lot of extra effort outside of our contact hours, and I highly recommend her.
